KCHR Fellowships

Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) offers the following research fellowships. 

1. Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship& (1 number)

Scholar in Residence fellowship is a three-month short-term Residence fellowship to scholars to work on articles or monographs or for completing their scholarly work in progress. Their presence in KCHR is also to facilitate intellectual interfaces at KCHR with other academic institutions in the state. The scholars will beprovided residence facility and a fellowship amount (honorarium) of Rs. 1,50,000/-.

2. Fellowships to revise Ph.D. thesis (2 numbers)

This fellowship supports scholars to revise/modify their PhD theses for publication. The grant under this scheme will be a maximum of Rs. 100,000 and the selected scholar will have to complete the work within one year. Last date to apply is on or before 31st July 2018.

3. Fellowships for Post-Doctoral Research (5 numbers)

This fellowship is meant to support PhD holders in History to pursue Post doctoral research. The grant under this scheme will be of Rs. 25000/- per month with a contingency grant of Rs. 25000/- for a year. The selected scholar will have to complete the work within one year. This will not lead to a university level appointment as a post doctoral researcher. Last date to apply is on or before 31st July 2018.

4. PhD Fellowships (10 numbers)

KCHR Doctoral Fellowships are open to research scholars to pursue PhD programme in any of the Indian Universities in Social Science. Theme of the research should be empirically or theoretically related to the evolution of Kerala Society.

The fellowship grant, opened to full time research scholars, is Rs. 15,000/- per month with contingency grant of Rs. 25,000/- per annum. The tenure of the fellowship is three years which has to be renewed every year based on the critical evaluation of the work done during the period by a committee appointed by the Director, KCHR on the advice by the Research Advisory Committee. Last date to apply is on or before 31st July 2018.

5.  Fellowship for Independent Research – Women (3 numbers)

The fellowship is solely for women who have genuine academic interest in History and allied subjects. The tenure of the fellowship will be one year and the grant under this scheme will be of Rs. 15,000 per month with a Contingency grant of Rs. 25,000 for a year. The candidates with a publication in either English of Malayalam to their credit which is equivalent to a PhD thesis or is of publishable nature can apply in the prescribed form along with a detailed synopsis. Last date to apply is on or before 31st July 2018.

6.  Workshop/training for revision of PhD thesis (3 numbers)

The workshop/Training is for those who wish to revise their PhD thesis. The tenure of the workshop/Training will be one week. Candidates with a volume equivalent to PhD thesis and of publishable nature in either English or Malayalam to their credit can apply in the prescribed form along with a detailed synopsis. Last date to apply is on or before 31st July 2018.

7. Travel Assistance for scholars for attending conferences, seminars, consultation of libraries/ Archives/Museums and other data repositories

 The financial assistance is for scholars in social science, who wish to attend conferences, seminars, consult Libraries/Archives/Museums and other data repositories as part of their research.

8. Financial Assistance for conducting/hosting Academic Conferences/Seminars/ Workshops/ Panel discussions/Public lectures

This can be availed by academic organizations dealing with History and allied disciplines like educational institutions e.g. Colleges, Universities and Higher Secondary Schools under Governments/UGC/All India Regulatory Boards.

9. Funding for organizations which are not educational institutions for conducting academic programmes in History and allied subjects (4 Organizations)

The financial assistance is for organizations which are not educational institutions, who wish to conduct academic programmes related to Kerala History and society. An amount not more than Rs. 35,000/- will be given only if the intention of the organization is made evident and is approved by the KCHR.

10. Fund to enhance Library collection on books and materials in History and related fields (100 libraries)

An amount not more than Rs. 10,000/- will be given to a maximum of 100 public/village libraries to supplement their collection of History/Social Science books, original / copies of maps, rare photographs, newspapers, cartoons, illustrations etc.

11. Financial Assistance for the publication of Social Science Research/ Studies

An amount not more than Rs. 1 lakh will be offered as grant to the scholars/ researchers to publish social science studies and researches. The request with the proposal detailing the publication and its content may be send to the Director.
